Governor Abbott’s Border Wall Plan Could Create New Eminent Domain Issues For Texas Landowners

June 11, 2021 Posted in Industry News

This week, Gov. Abbott announced his initial plans for Texas to build its own border wall, with more details to be shared next week. This action follows President Biden’s suspension of border wall construction earlier this year.

Construction of the wall would impact Texas property owners along the border, as the majority of land required for the project is privately owned and would need to be purchased or taken through eminent domain. Many eminent domain cases in South Texas are still underway from the Trump and Bush administrations efforts to build a border wall.
