New Bill Could Better Protect Texas Landowners In Eminent Domain Cases

June 9, 2021 Posted in Industry News

House Bill 2730 has been sent to the Governor for consideration. If signed into law, the legislation could provide more protection for Texas landowners facing condemnation of their property.

The bill would require companies that are seeking to build oil or gas pipelines, railroads or power transmission lines to provide affected property owners with the terms of the contract up front, along with more information about the eminent domain process. The area surrounding the impacted property would also have to be restored as close as possible to its original condition, or property owners would have to be paid compensation for damages to land that isn’t restored.
