The Texas Department of Transportation is continuing the development process for the I-35 Capital Express Central project, which proposes to add two managed lanes in each direction along I-35 from US 290 East to SH 71/Ben White Boulevard. More than 140 commercial and residential properties in central Austin could be affected by the expansion.
Three proposals have been shared as part of the virtual public input process, with schematic maps showing the properties that could be absorbed. TxDOT would acquire the land by negotiation with the property owners, or by using the power of eminent domain if the parties are not able to come to an agreement.
Public comment is open through September 8 as TxDOT works to determine which plan will move forward. Read more about the I-35 Capital Express Central project from KUT Austin: https://www.kut.org/2021-08-19/txdots-proposals-for-i-35-would-raze-dozens-of-properties-in-central-austin
