An already operational natural gas pipeline that serves the St. Louis metro region is under scrutiny after a recent ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. The ruling found “that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) failed to scrutinize the arrangement adequately when FERC approved the line in 2018.” Environmental groups and opponents of the pipeline have argued that  developers were “self-dealing,” meaning that they were acting with their own interests in mind and not those of end users. The recent ruling likely means that federal officials will begin to look closer at this issue on future pipelines.
