With planning efforts for TxDOT’s I-14 extension project in full swing, approximately 170 property owners in Temple and Belton, Texas, are expected to experience impacts from the proposed right-of-way needs for the project’s three segments. This project will extend I-14 from I-35 in Belton to BU 190 in Rogers as an alternative for I-35 traffic.
I-14 Extension Project Segments:
- Segment 1: on I-35, north of Loop 121 in Belton to the intersection with Loop 363/US 190/SH 36 in Temple
- Segment 2: on Loop 363/US 190/SH 36 (at I-35) in Temple to SH 95
- Segment 3: on US 190/SH 36 from SH 95 to BU 190 in Rogers
TxDOT is already meeting with potentially affected landowners for Segment 1 to discuss the proposed alignment and gather feedback. Once the environmental clearance and final schematic design are complete around 2027, the project would advance into the right-of-way acquisition phase so construction can begin around 2030.
Segments 2 and 3 of the I-14 extension are currently on hold, with design work expected to resume next year. Those portions of the project are not anticipated to move forward until after 2030.
While all project timeline dates are subject to change and affected landowners have several years before any formal property acquisition process would begin, it is important to understand that no right-of-way acquisition or eminent domain activity is imminent.
It is never too early to stay informed, attend public meetings and consult with eminent domain legal experts to better understand property rights and plan ahead.
Information on the next Segment 1 public meetings, which will provide more detailed information about design progress and anticipated timelines.
I-14 Extension Segment 1 Upcoming Public Meetings:
- Date: January 13 and 14, 2026
- Locations: Mayborn Center in Temple and Cadence Bank Center in Belton, Texas
