About the Project

The VIA Green Line is a new 10-mile bus line corridor in San Antonio that will run north-south along San Pedro Avenue, from US 281 and Isom Road to Roosevelt Avenue and Steves Avenue. It aims to connect the San Antonio International Airport to downtown and the historic missions district in the south side of the city.

As part of San Antonio’s greater Rapid Transit (ART) system, it will operate similarly to a light rail system with platform boarding, multi-door loading and various ticketing kiosks throughout the route line, adding 26 stations with service running every 10-15 minutes.

Project components include:

  • 26 bus stations
  • Dedicated lanes on San Pedro Avenue
  • Sidewalks and bike lanes
  • Intersection updates including traffic signals and pedestrian crossings
  • Drainage improvements

Expected Impacts

While San Antonio’s VIA Green Line project will require mostly temporary easements, they are expected to cause significant disruption to surrounding areas. The project will affect hundreds of residents and businesses, primarily by restricting access to, and reducing the usability of, the remaining portions of their properties during construction.

Project Background

In 2020, 68% of San Antonio voters approved a proposition to increase the Advanced Transportation District funding to help fund Keep SA Moving projects starting in 2026. The VIA Green Line is part of those transportation improvements.

Estimated Timeline

  • Environmental and design completion: Early 2025

  • Construction start: Construction began in late 2024 – construction is active across segments 1 through 8 as of April 2026
  • Construction completion: Early 2028
