About the Project

The Texas Department of Transportation’s I-14 Extension project will extend I-14 from I-35 in Belton to BU 190 in Rogers as an alternative for I-35 traffic. This project has raised concerns among Belton community members regarding loss of easy downtown access from I-35 including more barriers among neighborhoods and the prioritization of through traffic over local connectivity.

The three project segments and their limits include:

  • Segment 1: I-35, north of Loop 121 in Belton to Loop 363/US 190/SH 36 in Temple
  • Segment 2: Loop 363/US 190/SH 36 (at I-35) in Temple to SH 95
  • Segment 3: US 190/SH 36 from SH 95 to BU 190 in Rogers

Expected Impacts

Hundreds of private property owners are expected to experience impacts from the proposed right-of-way needs for the three segments of the I-14 Extension project.

The I-14 Extension Project was authorized by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) in 2021 with the intention to expand industrial and military base connectivity as well as local traffic between Belton and Temple.
